Unit 1: Background Information
(0.5 - 1 hour)
- Understand the importance
of motivation.
- Identify the factors that
can lead to low motivation.
- Recognize how increased motivation
benefits employees and organizations.
- Demonstrate actions and attitudes
that enhance employee motivation.
- Simulation Overview:
- Each of the simulations allows
you to practice the skills learned in the
instructional content. You will enter realistic
scenarios in which you will interact with
a variety of individuals. By using the knowledge
you have gained, you control the outcome of
each simulation.
Unit 2: Motivating an
Underachieving Employee (0.5 - 1 hour)
- Understand why individual
motives vary.
- Differentiate between personal
and social needs.
- Identify the major types
of motivators.
- Choose the best motivator
for a given circumstance.
- Simulation Overview:
- In this simulation, your
Customer Service Manager has received feedback
from sales representatives and several customers.
They are regarding the attitude of an employee
in the Technical Support Department.
Unit 3: Motivating an
Overachieving Employee (0.5 - 1 hour)
- Identify the three major
methods of redesigning a job.
- Use job rotation, job enlargement,
and job enrichment as motivators.
- Differentiate between intrinsic
and extrinsic rewards.
- Identify the characteristics
of good rewards.
- Simulation Overview:
- In this simulation, an employee
has requested a meeting to discuss her work
environment and perceived lack of opportunities.
Her supervisor is a very aggressive man who
has been very vocal about his opposition to
distributed computing and networks.
Unit 4: Motivating a
Group (0.5 - 1 hour)
- Encourage your employees
to participate in team efforts.
- Identify the personal and
organizational factors that are important
to team success.
- Increase motivation within
a team.
- Address negative employee
characteristics.
- Simulation Overview:
- In this simulation, you have
missed your last ship date. You believe that
the employee morale is low and the chances
are high that the next deadline will be also
be missed. You have assembled a team of the
three people whose departments are most involved
in the problem.
